Local contribution to chocolate production with TurCao
Turyag® TurCao most closely mimics cocoa butter and will be domestically produced
Türkiye, 31 Jan, 2024: Cargill has launched Turyağ® TurCao, a locally produced cocoa butter equivalent that closely mimics cocoa butter, thanks to the Shea Stearin content in its formula, while providing longer shelf life and improved heat stability.
Turyağ® TurCao makes a difference in chocolate applications like tablet chocolate, coated chocolate, pralines, and wafers, serving as a cocoa butter equivalent for coating and filling fats.
The passion for chocolate will grow in the future with expectations the chocolate market to grow by 7% in Türkiye, the Middle East and Africa markets between 2023 and 2028 according to Euromonitor's data. However, due to budget constraints, 15% of consumers stated that they had to reduce their chocolate consumption in the last year. (Source: Innova, 2023).
Responding to these market needs, Cargill is producing Turyağ® TurCao at the Turyağ factory in Balıkesir, which is one of the facilities in Türkiye that has been awarded the Safety Supplier Certificate for quality and safety. “We are proud to produce the cocoa butter equivalent for the first time in Türkiye at our factory,” said Sonat Akat, Product Line Director Edible Oils META. “This is a very important step which will help manufacturers replace the use of imported goods, reduce their cost and bring them more flexibility in creating sustainable, indulgent chocolate treats here in Türkiye.”
Turyağ® TurCao has an excellent cocoa butter compatibility that offers many options for a flexible solution in recipes to achieve distinctive sensorial experiences. The product is a cost-effective solution that provides longer shelf life, improved heat stability at high climate areas and meets Codex and local regulations for chocolate at max 5% of cocoa butter dosage limits.
